TORSTRASSE 140

The showroom concept for KMB, a digital first communication agency in public relations, influencer marketing and social media, is an example of contemporary architectural design situated in the heart of Berlin on Torstrasse 140. The primary goal was to craft a versatile space that could seamlessly transition between functions: a dynamic showroom for a variety of brands encompassing fashion, interior products, and consumer goods, a setting for exclusive dinner events, and a welcoming venue to host clients during press days.

The architectural canvas provided a spacious atrium. This soaring verticality served as the cornerstone of our design vision. We embarked on a journey to reinvent the space's aesthetic, breaking free from its previous office identity while retaining its functional essence.

Movable displays take center stage, artfully constructed from oiled MDF, neatly arrayed across the floor plan. A 10mm thick, raw aluminum plate serves as the table's surface, accentuated by a subtle shadow gap. The wheels, finished in polished aluminum, harmoniously complement the tabletop. These versatile displays serve a tri-fold purpose: showcasing larger products, flexibly transforming into desks, and seamlessly transitioning into a reception or bar setup.

Bespoke aluminum shelves, supported by stainless steel wire, adorn the pristine white walls, mirroring each other in a symphony of minimalist elegance. A huge white cabinet, crowned with a raw aluminum top, stretches seamlessly along the entire expanse of one wall.

The pièce de résistance of the concept lies in the six custom-designed retail rails. Each rail, sculpted from a 25cm high, 1cm thick aluminum sheet, meticulously pre-milled to accommodate 25 hangers, is linked to ceiling-mounted motors. With the ease of an industrial remote control, the height of each rail becomes adjustable, facilitating a myriad of display configurations, all at the fingertips of the user.

To demarcate distinct zones within the expansive space, sleek room dividers constructed from aluminum profiles, adorned with translucent polycarbonate panels on both sides, come into play. The judicious use of carpeting on select walls not only adds an element of surprise but also enhances the acoustic environment.

Contributing to the overall design narrative are the bespoke artificial stone stools, intricately carved from styrofoam and coated in a glossy PU-lacquer. These mobile pieces serve as flexible seating options while seamlessly blending with VAUST's distinctive design language.

In sum, the showroom boasts a bold yet harmonious industrial material palette that simultaneously contrasts and warms the space. The end result is a contemporary reinterpretation of a showroom, where the focal point is the vertical rail installation, embodying innovation, functionality, and a touch of artistry.
